marathon days

i was reminiscing about the lincoln marathon by looking at some old posts while i should have been working. and i noticed something very funny. check out the shorts on this guy.

the garden spider

a conversation tonight with my brother revealed that my truck spider is in fact a writing spider, or a black and yellow garden spider, and the zig zag pattern in the web is a stabilimentum, the purpose of which is debated. My theory that the zigzag attracts prey is one of the arguments, but an even more convincing argument is that bold white lines make the web visible to birds (and fisheries biologists alike) so they will avoid flying into and wreaking havoc on a hard days work.

off like a prom dress

janna convinced katie and i to run a 5K mud run (which wasn't really a 5K, turns out it was only 2.5 miles) in prom dresses, which is not surprising cause everyone knows how much janna loves to dress up. we had a blast running through grapevines, diving face first into a massive mud pit (where i lost my sunglasses and janna and katie forged ahead unaware of the tragedy), eating pulled pork and sampling nebraska wines. oh, and we saw elvis fly.
